The Christmas craft afternoon

We put on festive music and made magical winter potions together. She decided one was for helping Father Christmas find our house.

Definitely prepare the table first

I made the mistake of letting my seven year old open everything before we'd properly set up. We ended up with little decorations all over the place and glitter in the most ridiculous spots. Once we got organised with a tray and some cloths, the actual crafting was lovely.

Our favourite rainy-day project so far

My daughter is eight and absolutely loves anything involving fairies, magic and making things. I thought this might be a fun little afternoon activity, but she ended up spending ages carefully choosing ingredients and naming her potions. We followed a couple of the included recipes before she decided to invent her own. There was definitely some tidying up afterwards, but she was so proud of the finished bottles that she insisted on putting them straight into the display case.

A nice mix of crafting and pretending

My daughter enjoyed filling and decorating the bottles, but what surprised me was how much she played with the finished collection afterwards. She spent the evening making up stories about different fairies who owned the potions.

The best kind of mum-and-daughter time

We chatted, laughed and made some very questionable magic potions together. Such a nice afternoon.

My boy loves dragons and spells

Bought it for my daughter originally, but her brother really enjoyed inventing dragon potions too. He made one called Super Fire Breath and was extremely pleased with himself.

M

Her own little magical world

The potions have become part of her fairy stories and pretend games. It's lovely watching her imagination take over.

Scarlett B.
One recipe at a time

We found it easier to follow a single idea, finish the bottle and then choose what to make next.

H

Twenty bottles is generous

I thought we'd finish the activity quickly, but there's quite a lot of scope to make different creations.

B

The wand gets used constantly

Even after the potions are finished, she's still waving it around and making up spells.

Keeping the little bits safe

We store the kit away from our toddler because of the small pieces and glitter. My older daughter enjoys bringing it out when we can supervise properly.

Better than painting for us

My daughter enjoys choosing colours and decorating things, but she's never been a huge fan of ordinary painting. This suited her much better.

She's opened a business

Her pretend fairy shop is now accepting orders from the whole family. Apparently payment is in chocolate coins.

Magical evening after tea

We spent a lovely half hour making colourful little potions while her dad sorted the washing-up.

Mummy's sleepy potion 😂

My daughter has made a special potion to help me get more sleep. Honestly, I appreciate the thought.

K

Tidying up together

We made it part of the activity to put everything away afterwards. She was surprisingly keen because she wanted her potion shop to look professional.

M
Melanie S.
Plenty of room for ideas

We followed a couple of recipes and then she spent the rest of the time creating completely new spells.

K
Katherine L.
Her bedroom fairy shelf

She's made a little corner with her potion display, fairy books and other magical treasures.

H
Heather W.
The glitter was the main attraction

She would've happily spent an hour just choosing which sparkles to add.

Birthday morning magic

My daughter was so excited about her present that we had our first potion-making session before lunchtime.

Careful carrying them around

My girl was eager to take all her creations upstairs, so we helped her pack them safely into the case.

Sparkles in her hair

Found glitter in her fringe at bedtime. She claimed it was fairy dust and refused to let me brush it out.

C
Courtney R.
Patience isn't her strong point

My daughter wanted to finish every bottle immediately. We slowed things down and enjoyed making a few properly.

C
Christina P.
None of the potions look alike

I love that she can make different colour combinations and give each one its own personality.

SOOOO magical ✨

My little girl is obsessedddd.

M
Michaela W.
My nine year old's potion lessons

She keeps explaining to her younger brother what each magical mixture supposedly does. He believes every word 😂

T
Tilly H.
The sisters made a deal

One chose the colours and the other decided the spell names. Surprisingly peaceful arrangement!

L

Proudly displayed in her bedroom

She's arranged her finished creations like they're expensive perfume bottles. Absolutely adorable.

S
Summer B.
We made our own labels

My daughter wrote little labels for the bottles and decorated them with stars. They look so sweet together.

Our rainy Cornwall holiday

We packed the kit for a family break and ended up making potions on an afternoon when the rain wouldn't stop. Such a nice memory.

E
Eve S.
Such a cheerful little kit

Bright, imaginative and lovely for a crafty afternoon.

P
Pippa W.
She wrote her own instructions

Apparently every potion needs a name, a special power and at least one secret ingredient.

B
Beth T.
Small fingers, fiddly pieces

My daughter had a little trouble with some of the decorations at first. Once I helped, she was happy to carry on.
