The early weeks with a newborn are such a blur of night feeds, nappies and trying to get a few hours' sleep. We almost forgot to do the prints until my mum reminded us. Our first handprint was completely smudged, but his foot turned out beautifully on the next attempt. It's now tucked away in his memory box beside his hospital wristband.

We bought this when our little girl was a few weeks old because I wanted something more personal than another photograph. Getting her to stay still took a little patience and we did end up using more than one pad, but that was absolutely fine. The tiny lines in her footprint came through nicely, and we've given one to her grandparents while keeping another for ourselves. Such a lovely little memory to have as she grows.
